▲ The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety is revising and distributing the 'Cosmetics Labeling and Advertising Management Guidelines (Civilian's Guide)' today (24th) to provide guidance on accurately labeling and advertising the content of extract raw materials in cosmetics.
[CosInKorea.com Reporter Kim Dae-hwan] In the future, the content of cosmetic extract raw materials must be labeled and recorded, excluding the diluting solvent. For example, in the case of cosmetics consisting of 1% green tea extract, 98% diluting solvent, and 1% preservative, it must be listed as 1% green tea extract.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (Minister Oh Yoo-kyung) announced that it will revise and distribute the 'Cosmetics Labeling and Advertising Management Guidelines (Civilian's Guide)' today (24th) to provide guidance on accurately labeling and advertising the content of extract raw materials in cosmetics. .
The revised guide reflected the opinions of experts such as the Advertising Advisory Committee and the Ingredient Standardization Committee and the cosmetics industry, and added ▲ methods and examples of listing extract content in cosmetics ▲ types of supporting data for calculating extract content, etc.
The content of the extract can be indicated and stated based on the finished cosmetic product, excluding diluting solvents, etc. If the content of the extract is stated to include a diluting solvent as if it were greater than the actual amount, it can be seen as an advertisement that deceives consumers.
The basis for extract content includes ▲ (raw material) information on the composition of raw materials prepared by separating the extract and diluting solvent, etc. ▲ (finished product) data that confirms the amount of extract used among cosmetic ingredients.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said, “We expect that concerns about consumer misconception will be reduced by accurately listing the extract content, and we will continue to provide the latest guides that can help consumers and the industry based on our regulatory science expertise.”
